Visas for Tourism, Business, Students and Other Temporary Travelers (Non-Immigrant Visas)
U.S. Online Visa Application
The U.S. Embassy in Dili does not process most visa categories, including visas for tourism. Applicants from Timor-Leste are encouraged to make appointments for visa interviews at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta or at another Embassy or Consulate in the region. Please visit U.S. Embassy Jakarta for information on how to apply for a visa there.
All non-immigrant applicants to the United States must use the online visa application form. The new DS-160 form replaces all the previous visa applications (such as the DS-156, DS-157, and DS-158). The DS-160 is filled out online and submitted electronically to the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate where the applicant will be interviewed. Applicants complete the DS-160 form, and then upload a 2 x 2 jpeg formatted photo and print out only the bar-coded confirmation page.
Visa fees cannot be collected in Timor-Leste and applicants may not make online appointments for visa interviews. Residents of Timor-Leste may make an appointment for a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta by emailing JakConsul@state.gov. Once you have made an appointment you will receive a confirmation email and instructions on how to pay the $160 visa application fee at any CIMB-Niaga branch in Indonesia.
Applicants must bring their passports, fee payment receipts, their printed barcode confirmation page, and one extra photo to their appointment. For additional information, including other documentation that may be required, please visit U.S. Embassy Jakarta’s website. If your visa is approved, you will be able to pick it up at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta within two working days of the interview.
If you wish to apply at a different U.S. Embassy, please consult that Embassy’s website for instructions on the process.
