Jonathan Henick, Deputy Chief of Mission

Deputy Chief of Mission, Jonathan Henick

A career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State for the last fifteen years, Jonathan Henick served most recently as a Visiting Fellow and Diplomat-in-Residence at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Prior to that he was the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan from 2005 to 2008.There he was the Embassy spokesperson and was responsible for all cultural, educational, civil society, and English language programs.


Mr. Henick has also served as the senior Political Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul from 2002 to 2005, as the Adviser to the U.S. Special Negotiator for Nagorno-Karabakh from 1999 to 2001, and as the Iraq desk officer at the U.S. Department of State in 1999.  Mr. Henick served as Political/Economic Officer in Lisbon, Portugal from 1997 to 1999, and as a Consular and Administrative officer in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 1994 to 1996.


Mr. Henick received the 2008 Award for Achievement in Public Diplomacy granted by the Public Diplomacy Alumni Association.  He has also received three individual Superior Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of State.

Mr. Henick is originally from New York.  He has a BA and a Master's degree in International Affairs from Columbia University.  His foreign languages include Russian, Portuguese, Turkish, and Azerbaijani.
